Obituary for Connie Boyd Dixon

Mr. Connie B. Dixon, 77, left his earthly vessel peacefully to be with The Lord, on Friday, January 4, 2019.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 7, 2019, at Wilkerson Funeral Chapel at 1:30 pm by Pastor Rusty Dixon and Pastor Skipper McLawhorn. Burial will be private
Connie was a lifelong resident of the Black Jack Community. He attended Chicod school and then graduated from Barber School in Charlotte. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served honorably. He met his wife while stationed in Fort Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the owner of The Plaza Barbershop where he cut hair and made friends for 49 years. He also owned Connie Dixon’s Used Car Lot and farmed for over 30 years. He was a member of Vision Casters Church where he loved watching his son preach and family worshiping the Lord. In his earlier years, he sang with The Temples Quartet and the Psalms Quartet. His voice made him a favorite at area churches and funerals.
Connie loved working, going to the beach, and attending auctions. He worked in his yard, at his church and anywhere he saw a need. He especially enjoyed going bird hunting with his boys. He was a strong family man and enjoyed spending time with his children and numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Fornes and Exie Mills and an older brother, Bobby Dixon.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Dixon, son Rusty Dixon and wife Terry of Greenville, daughter Karla Williams and husband Toby of Grimesland, daughter Kari Guzman and husband Jose of Black Jack and brother, Leaky L. Dixon of Black Jack. Grandchildren are Aaron and Dixon Williams, Austin Sutton, Abigail Dixon, and Gabriella Sofia Guzman.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Kari and Jose Guzman, 3303 Blackjack-Simpson Road.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Vision Casters Church, 5920 Old Tar Rd, Winterville, NC 28590 or his favorite store, The Salvation Army, P. O. Box 30280, Greenville, NC 27833.
