Obituary for Milton Ray Spain

Mr. Milton R. Spain, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at his home with his loving wife by his side.

The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11AM at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with John Ormond officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery.

Mr. Spain was a native and lifelong resident of Pitt County and was born to the late Charlie Bell Spain and Lishia Coggins Spain. He was a graduate of Belvoir High School and North Carolina State University, class of 1957. He was veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was engaged in farming for all of his working years. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church where he had served as Elder and Deacon and assisted in the grounds management and upkeep of the church including management of the cemetery. Mr. Spain was co-founder of the Staton House Volunteer Fire Department in 1960 where he served as President for many years following.

Family was the center of Mr. Spain’s life. He loved his Lord, his family, his church and his church family as well as his many friends. Since 1962, Mr. Spain and his family enjoyed many happy times at the family home at Bayside Shores.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Spain was preceded in death by a brother, C.B. Spain, Jr. and a sister, Rachel Spain McKenzie.

Surviving are wife of 60 years, Patsy James Spain; daughters, Susan E. Spain of Dallas, TX and Lisa Spain Briley and husband, Mike, of Greenville; grandchildren, Eric and Monica Briley of Greenville, Paige and Austin Brooks of Bath, Kerri and Mark Scott of Greenville, and Alexis and Brant Knotts, of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Emma Rae Briley, Easton, Nolan, and Alden Brooks, Eli Scott and Wyatt Knotts; Special nephews, Ted Spain of Florida and Wes Spain of California;

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
