Obituary for Elaine Hatch Harris

Mrs. Elaine Hatch Harris, 86, passed away on Monday February 10, 2020 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice.
A memorial service will be held on Friday evening, February 14th at 7:00pm at Farmer Funeral Service-Ayden, NC.
Mrs. Harris was born in Pitt Co., NC on August 22, 1933 to Louis and Sadie Hatch. She was raised in the Ayden Community, attending Ayden High School, where she played on the basketball team, as a guard. After high school she attended ECU for a short period of time. When the timing was right, she married her childhood sweetheart, Bill Harris, in 1953 at the precious age of 19. Together they traveled the southeast for his job, eventually returning to and settling down in Ayden. She always enjoyed being a part of the local Garden Club, wherever they resided. Her flowers brought her much joy. She also enjoyed watching collegiate sports and was a huge fan of her husband’s alma mater, NC State football and basketball teams. Her and her husband attended St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, William “Bill” Harris, of the home; her son, Bill Harris Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Ayden; her grandchildren, Trent and Dylan Harris; two sisters, Frances Galio and Victoria Hatch and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
